Hartal now only for today

Our Correspondent, Bandarban
The Parbottya Bangalee Somo Adhikar Andolon (PBSAA) has reduced its two-day hartal call in Bandarban to one day.

It has revised its hartal call in the district only for today. PBSAA sources said they revised the hartal call following talks with the administration Friday night.

The PBSAA on Thursday had called for a two-day hartal in the district on Monday and Tuesday to oppose the planned visit to the town by CHT Regional Council Chairman and PCJSS chief Jyotirindriya Bodhipriya Larma alias Santu Larma.

Larma is scheduled to attend a reception to GPA-5 scorers in SSC examination in the district, to be accorded by Hill Student Council, student front of PCJSS (Parbattya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity)

Tension mounted in the hill town yesterday as the PBSAA and the Hill Student Council remained firm on their programmes.

The PBSAA is opposing Larma's visit saying that activists of PCJSS led by him killed Bangalees before signing of the CHT peace accord in 1997. Members of PBSAA have hoisted black flags atop houses in the town.

On the other hand, the Hill Students Council is adamant to receive Larma in the town, sources said.

The district administration has deployed a large number of police men at vulnerable points in the town to avert any untoward incident.
