Land grabbers in Satkhira threaten victim's family

A group of land grabbers arrested Friday night for allegedly damaging house and occupying land of a Hindu family and released on Saturday are now threatening the victims to leave the country within a week or to face 'dire consequences'.

Quoting local people police said the land grabbers allegedly led by Miar Ali Dhali, Rabbani Dhali and Sadar Dhali of Kushodanga village in Kalaroa upazila damaged the house of one Tarapada Rishi of the same village, looted valuables and occupied his land Friday morning. They also beat inmates and drove them out of the house.

Police arrested Miar Ali Dhali, Rabbani Dhali and Sadar Dhali after Tarapada Rishi filed a case with Kalaroa thana. But they were released in the following morning.

After release, the accused are threatening Tarapada's family to leave the country within a week, he told this correspondent yesterday.

Tarapada alleged that the gang occupied the land he owned for over 30 years. He also has land deeds, he claimed.

On contact, Sub Inspector Mofazzel Hossain of Kalaroa thana said, the arrested persons were not released but were placed under the custody of the local Union Parishad chairman as he assured police that he would amicably settle the matter.
