'Listed criminal' lynched by mob in Gaibandha

Police said a gang led by Alauddin alias Alal, 32, was preparing to commit armed robbery at about 11 at night at Kholabari. Being informed, a police contingent from Sadar police station raided the area. Sensing danger, the gang of robbers opened five rounds of gunshots. In reply, police fired 15 rounds of gunshots. At that time, Alal jumped into a roadside pond while others managed to flee. Local people encircled the pond, caught Alal and beat him up indiscriminately.

Police arrested the criminal and shifted him to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital where the on-duty physician declared him dead.
