Cop takes away money, returns after 9 hours

Babul Ahmed of Subidbazar area of the city was on his way to a private diagnostic centre for buying blood for one of his ailing relatives.

At about 12-30 pm, Assistant Sub Inspector, Habib, of Sylhet Kotwali PS stopped his motorbike at Sagardighirpar and asked for the vehicle's documents.

As Babul said the vehicle belonged to his brother, the ASI took him to the Lamabazar police outpost and demanded Tk 2,000. When Babul informed him that he was carrying Tk 10,000 for blood and other purposes, Habib forcibly took away the money and asked him not to disclose the matter.

Later, the matter was brought to the notice of higher police officials and the ASI returned the money at the man at 9-30 pm.

A departmental inquiry has been going on, an official informed, without elaborating.
