Flood improves in Moulvibazar

The overall flood situation in Moulvibazar district marked improving yesterday as water levels of Monu and Dhalai rivers started falling.

But most of the villages in eight unions under Kulaura, Rajnagar and Kamalganj upazilas were still inundated as waters were gushing through the breaches in embankments of the rivers. The rivers burst their embankments on Wednesday.

Vast tracts of Amon fields in the three upazilas are under water.

According to Water Development Board (WDB) officials here, there was no report of heavy rainfall in the district in the last 18 hours ending yesterday morning. The flood situation will further improve in next 24 hours as the rivers have started falling.

The flood affected people of two unions in Kulaura and three unions in Kamalganj upazila, who took shelter in different schools or on high land, have not yet returned

home.
