Govt out to save Aug 17 culprits, Nasim tells Sylhet meeting

The incident has shaken the people and the country's image abroad, but the government seems to be worry-free. Its steps to nab the perpetrators and the style of investigation prove that. The country has turned into a den of militants who thrived under the protection of the four-party alliance government. They wan to capture power by misleading the people in the name of Islam, a religion which never approves violence, Nasim said.

He was addressing a public meeting held at the Court Point in the city Saturday evening. It was organised by the local unit of the 14-party opposition alliance.

People's life is now secure now. Bomb blasts have become an everyday affair as the government has failed to bring to book the people responsible for the August 17 blasts this year, August 24 attack on AL rally in Dhaka and scores of such incidents since takeover by the BNO-Jamaat government, the AL leader said.

Claiming that the August 17 serial blasts had ruling parties' approval, Nasim jokingly said: Clues will be found if the home minister is taken on remand and quizzed. He could not identify any of the miscreants behind bush blasts during the tenure of the government.

But they will not accept their failure, rather blame others for the incident, he said.

AL Presidium member said there is no alternative to removing this government from power to stop such incidents and crimes and establish peace in society.

Nasim said Jamat-e-Islami is a party of militants who are misinterpreting Islam for power. "They should be resisted at any cost".

He called upon the people to unite under the banner of the 14-party opposition alliance and intensify the on-going agitation to oust the government from power.

Addressing the meeting, bureaucrat-turned politician AMA Muhit said anti-liberation forces in the government are now out to destroy the spirit of the Liberation War.

A greater unity of peace loving forces is needed now to oust these forces from power, he said.

Sylhet district AL President ANM Shafique chaired the rally, also addressed by Sylhet City Corpora-tion Mayor and city AL chief Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, its general secretary Misbah Uddin Siraj, district AL General Secretary Iftekhar Hossain Shamim, Workers Party central leader Fazley Hossain Badsha, JSD Central Joint Secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan, NAP central organising secretary Saidur Rahman, Ganotantri Party Presidium member Arosh Ali and Samyabadi Dal central leader Abu Hanif.

Other speakers alleged that the government is now enagged in

politicising the administration and the Election Commission to retain power in the next election.

The government is suppressing the opposition by not allowing their political activists and implicating activists and leaders in false cases, they alleged.
