People will realise their demands

Nasim says in Kushtia

Former home minister and Awami League (AL) leader Mohammad Nasim has said the BNP-Jamaat coalition's dream to cling to power by politicising the administration and the Election commission will be foiled by people.

People are now conscious and they will resist the move to hold a farcical election, he said.

Election will not be free and fair unless the caretaker system and the Election Commission are reformed as per suggestions of Awami League, he said.

"People under the leadership of AL-led 14-party alliance will realise these demands and force the four-party alliance out of power in the next parliamentary election", he said while addressing a public meeting at Khoksa railway station premises in Kushtia on Tuesday.

Nasim pledged that if AL is voted to power, it would eliminate all types of violence, terrorism and fundamentalism from the country and again make Bangladesh as a country of peace, progress and communal harmony "as was during our rule before 2001".

"In only four years this government has branded Bangladesh as a country of religious extremists abroad", Nasim alleged.

This has tarnished the image of the country and affected foreign trade and investment, he said.

He alleged that fundamentalist forces have organised themselves under the protection of BNP. Now these forces are doing destructive activities and will do more in future.

"The administration had said time and again that there was no fundamentalist forces in the country and no existence of Bangla Bhai. But it has now announced a bounty for his arrest".

The AL leader called upon the people to intensify the on-going anti-government agitation and resist the forces involved in the August 17 bomb blasts and their 'political godfathers'.

All progressive and democratic forces are now united under the banner of 14-party alliance to oust the 'protectors of Ismalist zealots who are breeding violence in the country', he said.

With Sadar UKhan, former Khoksa upazila chairman and president of Khoksa upazila Awami League in the chair, the meeting was addressed by, among others, AL Advisor Committee member Barrister Amir-ul-Islam, central Relief and Welfare Secretary Prof Nazma Rahman, central leader Mirza Sultan Raza, Kushtia AL President Khondokar Rasiduzzaman Dudu, Vice President Mahbubul Ala Hanif, General Secretary Ajgar Ali and Organising Secretary Dr. Aminul Haq Ratan, Kumatkhali upazila AL President Jahid Hossain Zafar, General Secretary Abdul Mannan Khan and local Union Pparishad chairman Akram Hossain Dulal.
