Rigging in Sundarganj Poura polls alleged
Mahbubur Rahman who became second after counting of votes also urged the government for investigation of alleged irregularities in the polls.
He made the allegations at a press conference held at Gaibandha Press Club. He blamed Jamaat lawmaker Abdul Azizi for influencing the administration and police to make his party candidate Nurunnabi Pramanik victorious.
Election to Sunderganj Pourasabha was held on Sunday where Jamaat candidate Nurunnabi came out victorious bagging 2,036 votes while his nearest contestant Mahbubur Rahman got 1,400 votes.
Mahbub further alleged that the Jamaat candidate distributed CI sheets, implements of sanitary latrine, saree, cloth and money to win the polls race. Despite lodging complaints with the Returning Officer he did not take steps in this regard, he alleged at the press conference.
