Two RU teachers punished by Syndicate

The teachers-- Khorshed Alam and former Dean of Law Faculty M Badruddin have been barred from examining answer scripts for nine years and five years respectively.

The decision was taken at a recent meeting of the Syndicate with Vice-chancellor Prof Altaf Hossain in the chair, according to official sources.

Abdul Mannan Bhuinan, a former student of law department was given 62 percent marks in all 15 papers out of 16 in LLB (honours) examination in 1999. Mannan is now a lawyer in the Supreme Court.

In Administrative Law paper, Khorshed Alam him gave 32 marks and M Badruddin gave 31 marks.

Mannan appealed to the university authorities to review the marks.

As the university authority did not take steps, he victim filed a writ petition to the High Court for re-examination of his answer script.

The HC on April 25 last year directed to the university authorities to re-examine the paper within a month.

The RU authorities formed a committee to re-examine Mannan's answer script. The committee after re-examination gave Mannan 60 percent marks in that paper. The result was announced on August 1.

Talking to a group of newsmen yesterday, advocate Abdul Mannan said, 'I am very happy as action has been taken against the teachers.’

Khorshed Alam is now in Australia. When contacted, Badruddin said, "I did not give poor marks to Mannan intentionally".

RU VC Prof Altaf Hossain said the Syndicate decision is an example in the university.
