Withdraw UNO, demands BNP lawmaker

At a rally there, they also demanded withdrawal of Chirirbandar UNO ASM Moinur. Akhtaruzzaman was elected from Dinajpur-4 (Chirirbandar Khanshama) constituency.

On October 9, Hafizur Rahman, a local BNP leader arranged a meeting at a local school compound to hand over donations to some Puja Mandaps in the area. Supporters of Akhtaruzzaman resisted the meeting.

Hafizur Rahman then arranged another meeting on the premises of Chirirbandar UNO office. Akhtaruzzaman's supporters swooped on the meeting and foiled it. They also entered the UNO office and beat people. At least 20 people including the UNO were injured.

Four of the injured people were admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.

The UNO filed a case with Chichirbandar police on October 11.

Addressing the rally, Akhtaruzzaman said the October 9 incident was reported by newspapers in a distorted way and urged the UNO to withdraw the "false" case.

Chirirbandar thana Officer-in-Charge Md. Fazlul Karim told The Daily Star yesterday that the UNO filed the case as complainant, accusing 15 people including four local BNP leaders-- Mizanur Rahman, Monirul Islam Khan, Marshal and Hamidul Islam Shah.
