Temple land grabbed in Patuakhali

The priest of the temple, Dilip Chandra Cakrabarty and a youth, Swapan were injured when they tried to resist the attackers. Swapan has been admitted to a local hospital. The illegal occupants erected a wooden structure on the land.

The temple authorities yesterday submitted memorandums to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) protesting the incident.

Meanwhile, the authorities of a nearby mosque hung a signboard in the name of Madinatul Ulum Mahila Hafizia Madrassa on the land.

Mosque committee president Alauddin Sikder told this correspondent they want half of the land for setting up a madrassa.

When contacted, the temple committee convenor, Advocate Kalachad Saha told this correspondent some influential persons have been trying to grab the land worth over Tk one crore.

Additional police forces have been deployed to avert any untoward incident.
