Dead chickens for hospital patients!

A mobile court recovered 35 dead chickens while being prepared for patients at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) kitchen yesterday.

Shamsul Alam, Sanitary Inspector of Sadar upazila and Javed Iqbal, Sanitary Inspector of Mymensingh Municipality, conducted the raid at the MMCH kitchen and two canteens there.

Acting on a tip-off, the mobile team entered the kitchen and found the dead chickens kept on dishes for cooking. Those were to be served to patients for lunch, sources said.

Sensing presence of mobile court, all in the kitchen fled away. The dead chickens were supplied by a contractor yesterday and were received by hospital official concerned.

The news created a sensation among patients and their attendants at the hospital.

Earlier on the day, the mobile court also raided two canteens at the hospital, run by third and fourth class employees and found food items being prepared in unhygienic conditions.

The court told reporters that the canteens were fined Tk 4000 each.

On contact, MMCH Director Brig. Gen. Dr Md. Golam Mustafa said he has taken the matter seriously. The offenders will be punished after a probe, he said.
