Rain paralyses life in Patuakhali, Barisal
Our Patuakhali Correspondent reports: Most of the areas in the town and the district have gone under water.
Water remains stagnant in Sabujbagh, Kathpatti, Puran Bazaar Nawab Para, Chawk Bazaar, Muslimpara, Munsef Para, Charpara, Latif School Road and Kalikapur areas in the town.
More than 30 shoals in the district went under 3 to 4 feet water. The shoals are Char Agun Mukha, Char Biswas Chalitabunia, Panpalli and Char Bangla under Galachipa, Char Halim, Rangopaldi under Dashmina upazila, Char Besting, Char Karbarmar under Baufal, Muradia, Char Garabdi under Dumki upazila and Lalkal under the Sadar upazila.
Sources in the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) told this correspondent the passenger launches were asked to stop plying along internal routes due to hoisting of Cautionary Signal No 2.
Local Met office sources said they recorded 250- millimetre of rainfall in last 48 hours.
Fishing in the Bay has been totally stopped due to rough sea while newly planted amon seedlings have gone under water.
Patuakhali Fish Traders' Association secretary Nimai Chandra Das, also a fishing boat owner, told this correspondent over 300 fishing boats took shelter in Mohipur and Alipur areas.
Our Barisal Correspondent reports: Most of the residents in the city were confined inside their houses while a small number of transports vehicles were seen plying on the roads.
Local Met office recorded 80-millimetre rainfall in the city in 18 hours.
