Rain subsides soil, disrupts rail link

Railway employees were trying to repair the track under supervision of high officials but the work was disrupted by rain, railway officials said yesterday afternoon.

Resumption of rain service on the route is unlikely today (Monday), they said.

The track subsided near railway bridge No. 20. This was noticed first by a guard of local train Saturday morning. He informed Bhangura Station Master Abdul Kuddus.

On information, high officials from Pakshi rushed to the spot and got the track placed in order to pass the stranded trains from both sides. But heavy rains eroded the soil again and at two other points nearby, disrupting the link.

Railway's Western Zone General Manager Saifur Rahman and Chief Engineer Nurul Amin told this correspondent that heavy rain in the last few days weakened the soil in the track, which may create such problems at other points also.

Railway's Divisional Manager (Pakshi) SM Khasru and other high officials were supervising the repair work when the report was filed yesterday afternoon.
