Charge framing in Balu murder case today

Charge in journalist Humayun Kabir Balu murder case will be framed today in Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal.

The case was transferred to Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal yesterday from the court of District and Sessions Judge.

The charge sheet of the murder case was submitted on April 25 by Inspector Abdul Hamid of Detective Branch of KMP, naming eight operatives of Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) as accused. One of the chargesheeted accused--Ripon Ahmed alias Shoiab--was killed in a 'crossfire' in the city last month.

The other accused are founder of PBCP (Janajuddho) Abdur Rashid Mali alias Dada Tapan, Shumon Alias Sharifuzzaman, Masum, Zahid, Nazrul Islam alias Khorha Nazu, Sadikur Rahman alias Rimon and Iqbal Hossain Shadhin.

Zahid and Shadhin are in custody, while five others are absconding.

Humayun Kabir Balu, Editor of Dainik Janmabhumi, was killed in a bomb attack at noon on June 27 last year in front of his office cum residence at Islampur Road in Khulna city.
