BDR asked to protect dams in Satkhira
He also asked the authorities concerned to take action against Sadar thana Officer-in-Charge Golam Mohammad for his alleged corruption and misbehavior with Union Council chairmen.
The meeting was also addressed by, among others, Abdul Khaleque MP, Habibul Islam Habib MP, Gazi Nazrul Islam MP, Riasat Ali MP, BDR Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Asadur Rahman Khan and Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Md Ilias, Police Superintendent Abdur Rahim.
BDR Commander Lt Col Khan told the meeting that additional troops have already been deployed along the entire border area in the district including Khaitala embankment area to protect embankments.
Mentionably, the entire Satkhira Sadar, Kalaroa, Dehata, Tala and a part of Assassuni upazilas were inundated as some intruders cut embankments in Bangladesh territory in 2000 to flush floodwater.
On contact, Lt. Col. Asadur Rahman Khan told this correspondent that BDR troops have been put on alert along the border.
Meanwhile, the 14 Union Parishad chairmen in the Sadar upazila have withdrawn their hartal call for today in the district as the administration has promised to withdraw the Sadar thana OC, Police Superintendent Abdur Rahim said. The hartal was called by the UP chairmen demanding withdrawal of the OC.
