BNP men shut gruel kitchen, AL alleges

They also alleged that hundreds of monga-hit people who lined up for cooked food at the gruel kitchen were dispersed by the BNP men.

Gangachara upazila AL President Mojibur Rahman Pramanik told this correspondent that they arranged cooked food for several hundred distressed people but BNP men snatched it and dispersed the poor people forcibly.

Joint Secretary of Rangpur district AL, Mochaddeque Hossen Bablu, expressed his deep concern over what he called the 'henous act against starving people'.

He said despite resistance by ruling party men, AL will try to distribute food to monga affected people of Gangachara upazila today.

Local BNP leaders at a press conference at Gangachara yesterday denied the allegation that their men foiled AL's food distribution from a gruel kitchen at Godo-wnerhat. Awami League leaders themselves closed the gruel kitchen, they alleged.

There is no monga in Langorkhana now and opening of a gruel kitchen now is like shedding crocodile tears with a political motive, they said.

The press conference was addressed by Gangachara upazila BNP President Abu Zafar Tofi, Wahedur Rahman Mabu and other party leaders.
