Galib denied bail in Palashbari blast case

Gaibandha District and Sessions Judge Court yesterday rejected the bail prayers of Ahab (Ahle Hadith Andolon of Bangladesh) chief Asadullah-Al-Galib and five other accused in connection with the Palashbari bomb blast case.

Five other accused are JMB (Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh) regional commander Habibur Rahman alias Zubayer, Raju Sarder, Rawnakul Islam Khushi, ATM Taibur Rahman and Abdul Mottaleb. Defence lawyer Sirajul Islam Babu moved the bail prayers.

All were produced before court amid tight security.

The court fixed the next date of hearing on June 27.

Hundreds of Ahab supporters thronged the court to have a glimpse of their leader.

Two cases of bomb blasts in Gaibandha are under trial with the court. The first incident occurred on December 25 last year. Four bombs exploded during an open stage drama at Takier bazar in Palashbari upazila critically injuring 22 people.

The second incident took place at Mohimaganj BRAC office on February 10 last year. Three people were injured and the BRAC office was badly damaged as two bombs exploded at night.

Police framed charges against 12 people including Galib. Later, two of them, Raju Sarder and Jubayer were relieved of charges.
