23 drug traders, peddlers surrender in Jessore
They vowed not to trade on drugs any more and demanded rehabilitation in society.
Sources in Jessore collectorate said, 19 drug traders and drug peddlers from different areas of Jessore town surrendered to Acting Deputy Commissioner Belayet Hossain.
They are Kohinur, Ruma, Moni Begum, Zaheda, Josna, Lucky, Nurjahan, Badsha, Khairuzzaman, Sukur, Aziz, Delwar, Babu, Rashid, Hafizur, Liaquat, Miraj, Korban and Mohammad Ali.
Earlier on Tuesday, four drug peddlers sellers surrendered to Police Superintendent Abdur Rahman Khan.
Sources said, soon after taking charge, SP Abdur Rahman Khan directed police to weed out all drug selling spots in the town. Accordingly, police conducted several raids at the spots including Chanetra Raipara, Railgate, Shankarpur, Bijpara and Barandi Mollahpara to arrest drug traders and sellers.
Finding no alternatives, the drug traders decided to surrender.
Yesterday, a simple function was held at the collectorate building to mark their surrender.
SP Abdur Rahman Khan, Jessore Press Club General Secretary Zahid Hasan Tukan and Pourashava Commissioner Anisur Rahman Mukul were present, among others.
The acting DC assured them of all possible help for rehabilitation.
