BDR foils BSF's revetment bid again

BDR sources said, at about 10.40am, construction workers under cover of BSF personnel from Subjia camp in Gangaram-pur started the revetment work near main pillar no. 302 and river pillars no.1 and 2 in Mohanpur, violating international border code.

As BDR protested, they left the area, keeping construction materials.

Earlier, on May 26, BSF had attempted to renovate the embankment but abandoned it following protest by BDR.

After the stand-off, BDR declared a red alert along the border.

Lt. Col. Nurul Islam of 15 Rifle Battalion told The Daily Star that BSF started to reconstruct the embankment after BDR lifted the red alert.

He said several flag meetings were held since May 20 on the issue. BDR also proposed another flag meeting after the May 26 incident, but to no response from BSF, he said.
