11 chargesheeted JMB men still out of dragnet

Eleven chargesheeted accused in August 17 bomb blasts cases in Satkhira are evading arrest for over ten months after the incident.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) ASP Munshi Atiqur Rahman, also investigation officer (IO) of the five cases, submitted charge sheets against 17 JMB activists including its chief Abdur Rahman and JMJB chief Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai on October 10 last year.

But the court did not accept the five charge sheets, identifying some faults, and asked the IO to submit fresh charge sheets. The cases were sent to CID on January 26.

On March 2, the IO submitted five supplementary charge sheets against 19 JMB leaders and activists, adding two more accused. They are Rakib Hasan and Ismail Hossain of Jamalpur.

The trial court, while scrutinising the charge sheets, again detected some faults and sent the cases to CID, asking it to submit charge sheets after getting evidences examined by explosive experts.

CID ASP Munshi Atiquur Rahman after removing the faults submitted supplementary charge sheets on April 4 against 19 people including Abdur Rahman, Bangla Bhai and JMB military commander Ataur Rahman Sunny.

The other charge sheeted accused are Nasir Uddin Dafadar, Asadullah, Anisur Rahman Khokon, Maniruzzaman Munna, Asadul Islam, Abul Khair, Nayeem, Fakar Uddin Raji, Noor Ali, Momtaz, Habibur Rahman, Mahbubur Rahman Liton, Gias Uddin, Hafez Hujur, Rakib Hasan and Ismail.

Police so far arrested eight of the chargesheeted accused.

They are Abdur Rahman, Bangla Bhai, Ataur Rahman Sunny, Nasir Uddin, Anisur Rahman Khokon, Maniruzzaman Munna, Mahbubur Rahman Liton and Gias Uddin.

But 11 other chargesheeted accused including four who recruited and organised militants in Satkhira district are still evading arrest, police sources said.

They are Asadullah, Asadul Islam, Abul Khair, Nayeem, Fakar Uddin Raji, Noor Ali, Momtaz, Habibur Rahman, Hafez Hujur, Rakib Hasan and Ismail.

Police said, they are hunting for the absconding charge sheeted accused including the four JMB leaders who recruited and oganised the militants in the district.

They are JMB Khulna divisional chief Fakar Uddin Raji of Patharghata, Momtaz of Kharibila, and Abul Khair of Satani in Sadar upazila, JMB district operation chief Nayeem of Putuni in Kalaroa upazila, Noor Ali Member of Kullah in Assassuni upazila.

Apart from them, police are also hunting for two other top leaders of JMB-- Maulana Washiqur Rahman of Taluigachha in Satkhira Sadar upazila and Asadullah of Keshabpur upazila in Jessore district.

On contact, police super Fazlur Rahman said, they have intensified drives to nab the militants.

"Police are now trying to nab the other militants including suicide squad members", the SP said.

Meanwhile, sources claimed that activists of banned Islamist outfit Jama'atul Mujahidin Bangladesh (JMB) are regrouping, using mosques and madrasas in the rural areas of the district as law enforcers failed to arrest the chargesheeted accused and other top JMB leaders in Satkhira.
