BNP Vice-Chairman Hafizuddin Ahmed yesterday said it is shameful for the nation that the ruling party leaders are criticising Chief Justice SK Sinha for his comments on writing judgment after retirement.

They are making remarks on the chief justice in parliament and outside, he said.

Hafiz was addressing a discussion arranged by "All Community Forum", a pro-BNP platform, at the Jatiya Press Club.

The BNP leader said the ruling party men are now making wild remarks as the mechanism for the government has collapsed.

Recently, the chief justice in a statement said writing judgments after retirement goes against the constitution.

In its reaction, the BNP demanded restoration of the caretaker government system, claiming that the Supreme Court judgment regarding the provision was illegal and unconstitutional as it was written by the then chief justice ABM Khairul Haque months after his retirement.

In the wake of the controversy triggered by the CJ's remarks, Law Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday told parliament that writing verdict after retirement is not illegal and unconstitutional.

Awami League MP Suranjit Sengupta said assuming office of the chief justice, SK Sinha has created tension in national politics, which is unacceptable.
