Bangladesh's women's team will look to take inspiration from their bowling and fielding efforts against West Indies on Wednesday when they take on former champions England in the ICC Women's World Twenty20 at the Sylhet Cricket Stadium today. The match begins at 3:30pm.
Bangladesh lost their opening match by 36 runs but showed a lot of intensity and purpose in their effort, especially in bowling and fielding where they restricted the West Indies to 115. But they will also be looking to put up a bit of a fight in batting, which so often has been their thorn in the side. In 19 T20Is so far, Bangladesh's highest score has been 113 and it's been sub-100 in recent times. Skipper Salma Khatun knows the importance of getting the runs on the board for the bowlers to put pressure on the opposition.
“We need to bat better. We need to score more runs in the powerplay overs. If we can do that, I think our bowlers are good enough to make things hard for the opposition,” said Salma yesterday.
But a win against England, who won convincingly against India after their defeat against the West Indies in the opening match, should be quite a task as the English are heavy in both batting and bowling. Charlotte Edwards and Sarah Taylor are the two batting stalwarts along with an array of medium pacers and spinners. Skipper Edwards is cautious about the opposition.
“The way they bowled on Wednesday, we have no reason to take them lightly. They will also have the crowd behind them,” said Edwards.
