Agri product imports to reduce over the years, says new agriculture minister

The government plans to reduce agricultural product imports over the next year, Agriculture Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid said today.

He added that within the next year, agricultural products will be exported on an industrial scale, speaking while exchanging greetings with senior officials of the ministry.

Describing agriculture as the backbone of the national economy, the minister noted that a large segment of the population depends on this sector for their livelihood.

He said the agricultural sector will be modernised and comprehensively restructured through proper planning.

To further strengthen the country’s economy, he stressed that agriculture must be given top priority and called for the cooperation of all stakeholders in advancing the nation’s agricultural development.
