Courier, logistics services providers demand sector-friendly law

Star Business Report

The courier and logistics services providers today urged the government to form a business-friendly law for the sector.

They came up with the call at the second meeting of the standing committee on logistics and courier services of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) held at the FBCCI office in Dhaka.

The meeting discussed the proposed draft law titled "Mailing Operator and Courier Service Development and Regulatory Authority Act-2022."

The entrepreneurs also urged the government to declare the courier and logistics sector as a service industry.

The FBCCI is preparing a 20-year roadmap for logistics development, said FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin.

He said the future expansion of the country's economy largely depends on logistics as the sector builds up a sustainable supply chain.

Attaining food security is impossible without an effective logistics ecosystem, he said.

Director in-charge of the committee, Md Naser, said the committee will soon prepare its recommendation for the amendment of the draft law.

Chairman of the committee and President of Courier Services Association of Bangladesh, Hafizur Rahman Pulok, also spoke.
