Experts say at the fifth World Veterinary Poultry Association (WPVA) Asia Meeting-2022

The government targets making available 160 grams of meat a day and 208 eggs a year for per person by 2041, said Monjur Mohammad Shahjada, director general of the Department of Livestock Services.

To reach the target, the cost of production should be reduced, has to ensure meat and egg at cheap prices and make the two food items safer for all, he said.

Shahjada spoke at the opening ceremony of the fifth World Veterinary Poultry Association (WPVA) Asia Meeting-2022 held at a hotel in Dhaka today.

The poultry has a huge contribution in rural economy and it has stopped migration from village to big cities to a great extent, said Abu Luthfe Fazle Rahim Khan Shahriar, executive member of Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council.

"Our main goal is now how to reduce production cost. The production cost will fall if we can stop infectious diseases."

"We are thinking about exporting our produce. But for that we have raise the quality of local meat and egg to make them safer. Otherwise we will have to struggle to reach international markets," he said.

Over 300 delegates from home and abroad, including poultry veterinarians, allied professionals and other public and private sector stakeholders, jointed the meeting.
