EuroCham seeks better business climate for EU investors

The European Union Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (EuroCham Bangladesh) stressed the need for Bangladesh to secure Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) facilities and improve its investment climate to attract more European investors.

EuroCham is actively advocating in Brussels for Bangladesh’s inclusion in the GSP+ scheme, which could help sustain the country’s export competitiveness in the EU market post-LDC graduation, said Nuria Lopez, chairperson of the chamber, at the EuroCham Business Evening 2026 held in Dhaka on January 20.

She also underscored the importance of creating a transparent and business-friendly ecosystem in Bangladesh that encourages more European businesses to consider the country as a manufacturing and investment hub.

The event, styled “Delivering for European Businesses”, also featured EuroCham’s first annual general meeting, and the inaugural advisory council meeting.

It brought together EU delegation officials, ambassadors and trade representatives from Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, France, the Netherlands, and Italy, as well as local business leaders and government officials.

EU Ambassador Michael Miller, in his keynote, titled “The EU Means Business in Bangladesh”, highlighted the EU’s commercial engagement with Bangladesh and called for a level playing field for European companies, policy stability, and the timely completion of reforms launched by the interim government.

The EU remains a reliable and long-term partner for Bangladesh, Miller said, reaffirming support for the country's path toward democratic and economic progress.
