The finance minister consistently avoided addressing the recent leadership transition at Bangladesh Bank following a high-level meeting at the Secretariat.

Despite persistent questioning from the press, the minister refused to provide details regarding the departure of the former governor or the selection of his successor, Md Mostaqur Rahman.

Reporters from various media outlets surrounded Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury as he was leaving after holding an hour-long meeting with the newly appointed governor.

“There is nothing to say,” was the first line the minister uttered when asked about the appointment and the removal of the central bank governors.

The next sentence he delivered after entering the lift was: “Thank you,” followed by “No comment.”

Earlier, the minister attended a meeting with officials of the Dhaka office of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which Rahman briefly joined after arriving around 3:30 pm.

After the ADB meeting, the minister and the governor continued discussions in the presence of Nazma Mobarek, secretary of the Financial Institutions Division.

Mobarek left shortly afterwards, but Chowdhury and Rahman continued their private meeting until around 4:30 pm.

Journalists gathered around the two during their departure after the meeting.
