Humaira Azam, first female managing director of commercial bank

Trust Bank Ltd has appointed Humaira Azam as its first female managing director.

Since her appointment, she is the first female top executive of a commercial bank in the country.

Trust Bank took the decision on Monday and it will have to take prior approval from the central bank to implement the decision.

Humaira, who started her banking career as a management trainee officer in ANZ Grindlays Bank in 1990, earlier contributed to different local and foreign banks, and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs).

Trust Bank recruited her as an additional managing director in 2018 and she is serving as an acting MD of the lender right now.

She also served as the deputy managing director of Bank Asia where he joined in 2012.

In 2009, she was appointed as managing director of IPDC Finance Ltd when the NBFI was facing different types of troubles thanks to a large amount of defaulted loans. She played a vital role in turning around the NBFI from the dire straits.

She also served some other banks including HSBC and Standard Chartered.

Some female persons earlier got the responsibility to play their role as acting MD, but Humaira is going to be the first full-fledged chief executive officer.

The government earlier appointed Mahtab Jabin as MD of Probashi Kallyan Bank, who was the first female CEO in a specialised state-run bank.

Humaira obtained honours and master's degrees in international relations from Dhaka University.
