Two-day zakat fair begins in Dhaka

The two-day Zakat Fair 2023 began in Dhaka today with the theme of 'Making a difference with Zakat'.

Muslims are bound to give away a portion of their money and property, which is called zakat.

Eminent economist Prof Wahiduddin Mahmud inaugurated the fair in the capital.

The Center for Zakat Management (CZM) organised the fair with an aim to exchange the experience of different organisations related to zakat payment system in an organised and planned manner, consultation on various Zakat related issues and poverty alleviation.

Addressing a seminar titled "Social safety net and role of zakat", Prof Mahmud said Zakat is an important element in ensuring social security and institutionalised zakat management is essential for equality of opportunity.

Mohammad Abdul Majid, former chairman of the National Board of Revenue, presented the main article in the seminar.

CZM Chairman Niaz Rahim also spoke.
