LafargeHolcim Bangladesh PLC (LHB), the country’s leading sustainable building materials manufacturer, yesterday launched its nationwide “Holcim Structural Excellence Awards 2026” at a hotel in Dhaka.

The programme aims to honour exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to Bangladesh’s construction sector, with a focus on structural innovation, sustainable construction and visionary engineering. Iqbal Chowdhury, chief executive officer of LHB, inaugurated the awards, according to a press release. The competition will culminate in a grand gala event in January 2027 to celebrate the awardees.

“Engineers are the true architects of our nation’s rapid modernisation and resilient infrastructure. As Bangladesh advances towards smart, climate-resilient and sustainable urbanisation, recognising the brilliance and dedication of our engineering community is vital,” Iqbal said.

“Through this award programme, LHB aims to foster innovation, promote green construction practices and empower both seasoned professionals and emerging engineering minds to set new benchmarks in structural and environmental excellence,” he added.

The awards will be given in four categories: High Performing Concrete Structure, Advanced Concrete Technology & Circularity, Legendary Structural Engineer Award, and Next Generation/Visionary Design. A single winner will be recognised in each of the first three categories, while the Next Generation/Visionary Design category will honour 10 emerging talents.

One recipient among the category winners will also receive the grand winner title.

The competition will follow five phases, with submissions evaluated by an independent, multidisciplinary panel of experts, civil engineering professionals and academics.

Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque, commercial and logistics director of LHB, and Abid Mahmood, head of marketing, among others, were also present.
