Bangladesh University hosts workshop to boost students’ capital market knowledge

Bangladesh University (BU) organised a workshop titled "Capital Market Review: Empowering the Next Generation of Investors" to enhance students' understanding of the capital market and investment.

The workshop was organised by the Bangladesh Academy for Securities Markets (BASM) in collaboration with the university's Department of Business Administration and the Bangladesh University Business Club (BUBC). It was held at the university's hall room on Wednesday, according to a press release.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam attended the programme as the chief guest, while Registrar Brig. Gen. Md. Mahbubul Haq (Retd.) was present as the special guest. The session was chaired by Dr. Md. Muzakkirul Huda, head of the Department of Business Administration.

The workshop featured Kamrul Anam Khan, FCMA, director general of BASM, Nipa Saha and Md. Saddam Hossain Khan as resource persons.

The speakers discussed the structure of Bangladesh's capital market, investment fundamentals, risk management, financial literacy and the importance of responsible investing.

During a technical session, Md. Saddam Hossain Khan explained the initial public offering (IPO) and listing process, pre-investment data analysis and risk assessment strategies, including the "Three Filter Theory for Calculative Risk Management" and technical analysis covering chart patterns, trend analysis, and support and resistance levels.

Addressing the programme, Prof. Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam said financial and investment knowledge, alongside academic education, would play an increasingly important role in students' professional lives. He expressed hope that such initiatives would help improve students' skills and financial awareness.

A quiz competition based on the workshop sessions was also held, with prizes awarded to successful participants.

Students from different departments attended the programme and took part in an interactive question-and-answer session with the resource persons.
