DMH Foundation urges stronger global action on Rohingya crisis
The Dr Mostafa-Hazera (DMH) Foundation called for stronger international action on the Rohingya crisis during a “Meet the Press” and discussion session at the Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium.
The programme focused on humanitarian and health conditions in Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, according to a press release.
The event was addressed by Captain A K M Golam Kibria, founder of the Dr Mostafa-Hazera Foundation, and Dr Sultana Khanum, former director of health system development at the World Health Organization.
Speakers expressed concern over deteriorating health conditions in the refugee camps and warned of risks linked to infectious diseases, malnutrition and limited healthcare facilities.
The foundation said it provided treatment and medicines to more than 1,400 patients during a medical mission conducted from May 5 to 7 at Kutupalong camp.
The speakers said the crisis has implications for public health and regional stability.
The foundation also highlighted concerns over education and employment opportunities for Rohingya youth, warning that prolonged deprivation could increase vulnerability to criminal activity and social instability.
Captain Golam Kibria said the organisation’s “Five Zero Global Campaign” focuses on healthcare, education, skills development and humanitarian engagement.
He said the initiative promotes the philosophy of “Humanity Beyond Donations – A New Course for Peace and Prosperity”.
The foundation said it has participated in discussions linked to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights regarding Rohingya-related humanitarian cooperation.
The speakers called for emergency healthcare support, education and skills development for refugee youth, stronger international burden-sharing, safe repatriation and accountability for crimes against humanity.
Journalists, healthcare professionals, humanitarian workers and civil society representatives attended the programme.
