Farmers visit Meena Bazar to promote direct sourcing and GAP practices
Meena Bazar organised a farmers’ engagement programme involving 50 agricultural entrepreneurs from different regions of the country to promote direct farm-to-retail collaboration and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
The initiative was organised in collaboration with the Hortex Foundation, according to a press release.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Jahangir Alam attended the programme as an observer.
Participating farmers were introduced to Meena Bazar’s product collection systems, preservation methods, quality assurance procedures and retail operations.
The organisers said the programme aimed to strengthen transparency in the agricultural supply chain and improve market access for farmers.
Md Rafiqul Islam, head of agro project at Meena Bazar, said, “There is no alternative to direct engagement with farmers in ensuring safe food for consumers. Through initiatives like this, the agricultural supply chain becomes more transparent, accountable, and efficient.”
Meena Bazar said the programme is linked to its “Back to Root” initiative, under which the company sources products directly from farmers to ensure freshness, traceability and quality control.
The initiative also aims to reduce dependence on intermediaries and support fair pricing for farmers.
Shameem Ahmed Jaigirder, chief operating officer of Meena Bazar, said, “Our goal is to build a direct and sustainable connection between small-scale farmers and consumers through Meena Bazar. We want to empower farmers by ensuring fair value for their produce while delivering fresher and safer products to customers.”
The company said it plans to continue similar initiatives to support sustainable agriculture and strengthen Bangladesh’s food supply chain.
