KDA, AKIJ Ispat host earthquake awareness programme in Khulna

Khulna Development Authority and AKIJ Ispat Limited organised an awareness seminar titled “Role of High Quality Reinforcement Bar in Earthquake-Resistant Construction in Bangladesh” at the KDA auditorium in Khulna on January 29.

The programme brought together engineers, architects and construction stakeholders to discuss structural safety in earthquake-prone Bangladesh, says a press release.

Khulna Development Authority chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Zahangir Hossain attended the seminar as chief guest, while AKIJ Ispat Limited chief executive officer Galib Mohammad was present as special guest.

The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr Mehedi Ahmed Ansary, professor of civil engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and founder secretary general of the Bangladesh Earthquake Society. He outlined the critical role of high-quality reinforcement bars in improving the earthquake resilience of buildings and infrastructure.

Engineers, architects, teachers, representatives of residential area committees and other related professionals took part in the seminar, which focused on construction quality, safety awareness and best practices.

The event was presided over by Kazi Md Sabirul Alam, chief engineer of Khulna Development Authority.
