UIU, BRAC University sign MoU to boost joint research

United International University (UIU) and BRAC University have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen research collaboration between the two institutions.

The MoU was signed on January 19, 2026, at the UIU campus in United City, Dhaka, says a press release.

Syed Ferhat Anwar, vice-chancellor of BRAC University, attended the ceremony as chief guest. Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury, pro vice-chancellor of BRAC University, and Ariful Islam, treasurer of BRAC University, were present as special guests.

Also present were Hasan Mahmood Raja, chairman of the board of trustees of UIU; Md. Abul Kashem Mia, vice-chancellor of UIU; and M Rezwan Khan, professor emeritus, executive director of the Institute for Advanced Research and former vice-chancellor of UIU.

The vice-chancellors of the two universities signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. Deans, heads of departments, registrar, directors, faculty members and senior officials from both universities attended the event.

Under the agreement, the two universities will jointly support collaborative research, high-quality publications in recognised journals and cooperative research partnerships. Faculty members from both institutions will be eligible to receive research funding under the initiative.

UIU’s Institute for Advanced Research has invested more than Tk 80 million in research activities since 2019 with financial support from United Group. The institute currently manages more than 120 ongoing research projects and awards research grants twice a year, while also collaborating with national and international organisations.
