Rajshahi University's Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) department on Sunday launched its first-ever scholarship, titled “Journalist Ahmedur Rahman-Habibur Rahman Milon Scholarship”.

The scholarship has been established in memory of two eminent late journalists, Ahmedur Rahman and Habibur Rahman Milon.

The scholarship was formally inaugurated at the department, with Prof Dr Mozammel Hossain Bokul in the chair. RU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Md Farid Uddin Khan joined the event as the chief guest, while Aditi Rahman, daughter of late journalist Habibur Rahman Milon, joined the programme virtually.

Speakers said the initiative would recognise academic excellence and inspire students to uphold professional ethics and responsibility in journalism.

This year’s recipients are Sadia Akter from the second year and Madhabi Rani Roy from the fourth year.

Journalist Ahmedur Rahman and his brother Habibur Rahman Milon were renowned figures in Bangladesh’s journalism sector. Ahmedur was known for his writing in the daily Ittefaq, while Ekushey Padak-winning journalist Habibur Milon served as the newspaper's advisory editor and was a key figure at the Jatiya Press Club.
