Women dominate BRUR’s Merit, Dean’s awards

Awards conferred on 18 students for academic excellence

Eleven out of 15 Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) students awarded Merit Awards yesterday were women.

BRUR conferred its Dean's Award and Merit Award 2025-2026 among 18 students at a ceremony held at the conference room of the university's administrative building.

The Dean's Award goes to the highest CGPA achiever in each faculty, while the Merit Award recognises top performing students by department.

Of the 15 students who received the Merit Award, four were male and 11 were female. In the Dean's Award category, all three recipients were women. They are: Maimuna Khatun (Management Information Systems), Musfiqua Moni (Economics), and Rihan Akter (Electrical and Electronic Engineering).

Three of BRUR's six faculties -- Social Sciences, Business Studies, and Engineering and Technology -- took part in the Dean's Award this year. The remaining three faculties' results have not yet been published.

The Merit Award recipients are Farha Faiza Binita (English), Ummehani Zohra (History and Archaeology), Musfiqua Moni (Economics), Banhishikha Roy (Political Science), Most Sumaiya Afrose Sony (Gender and Development Studies), Nahida Hassan Dipa (Mass Communication and Journalism), Sumaya Khan Anamika (Public Administration), Most Nur-A Marjan Esha (Sociology) Maimuna Khatun (Management Information Systems), Shamria Nawas Chatana (Marketing), Shoheb Miah (Management Studies), Sarwer Khan (Finance and Banking), Md Fahim Akanda (Accounting and Information Systems), Rihan Akter (Electrical and Electronic Engineering), and Rakibul Hasan (Computer Science and Engineering).

Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Shawkat Ali attended the award ceremony as the chief guest and handed over mementos, certificates and cheques to the winning students.
