24 passport brokers jailed, fined

A mobile court assisted by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday convicted 24 passport brokers near the passport office in the capital's Agargaon.

The court led by Executive Magistrate Helal Uddin jailed six of them for six months, three for three months, eight for one month, two for 15 days and fined five people from Tk 3,000 to Tk 10,000, said Khalid Borhan, assistant director of Rab-2.

The brokers have been taking money from passport seekers, promising them to provide with passports easily, he said.

After taking money they used to deceive them, said Khalid.
