5 die in Dhaka road accidents

Five killed in four other districts

Ten people were killed and 10 others injured in road accidents in five districts including Dhaka yesterday.

Our staff correspondent reports, three people including drivers of a sand-laden truck and a pickup carrying chickens were killed and three others injured as the two vehicles collided head-on in the capital's Banani in the early hours.

The trucker was driving down the wrong way, Banani police told The Daily Star.

Arif, the trucker; Shamim, his helper; and Mizanur Rahman, the other driver, succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The injured, who were aboard both the vehicles, are undergoing treatment at the DMCH.

Meanwhile, Saddam Hossain, 26, was killed and another injured as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and their motorbike collided head-on on at Sristighar Haji Bagan in Shibpur upazila.

BSS reports, motorcyclist Md Uzzal Miah was killed instantly and his co-rider injured when a truck hit the motorbike from the opposite direction before the DB office in Karaniganj in the afternoon, said witnesses.

Another motorbike rider Tushar was killed and his co-rider injured when a lorry and their bike collided head-on in Molarpol of Kariniganj in the morning.

In Panchagarh, two persons were killed and four others injured as a truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Kalurhat-Sakoa road in Debiganj upazila, said police.

The deceased were Musa Islam, 30, of Chandanbari village; and Enam, 35, the auto-rickshaw driver.

The wounded were admitted to a local hospital.

Our Dinajpur correspondent reports, a motorcyclist died instantly as a truck hit him on Dinajpur-Panchagarh highway at Kabirajhat in Birganj upazila in the morning.

The deceased was Md Nawab Ali, 52, of Shitlai village in Birganj.

Our Benapole correspondent adds, a woman was killed after a brick-laden truck hit her while she was walking along Jessore-Jhenidah road in Churamonkathi Bazar area of Sadar upazila in Jessore in the morning.

The victim was Nurjahan Bagum, 38, wife of Rahim of Churamonkathi village.
