AL activists block highway protesting stabbing death of JL leader

Ruling party activists and locals blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway with the body of a former Jubo League leader around noon yesterday protesting his murder and demanding that the killers be arrested and punished, till police dispersed them after half an hour.

Two persons have been arrested in Gazipur's Kaliakoir upazila and a vehicle seized hours after Rafiqul Islam, the former upazila unit Jubo League president, was mortally wounded by some unidentified men carrying iron rods, sticks and machetes on Friday evening.

Rafiqul was attacked while having tea in a shop beside Bangabandhu College after attending a memorial meeting in the college on the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in August 15, 1975 and the 21 August, 2004 grenade attack.
