Five persons had attacked the president of a faction of Awami Olama League at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque's south gate on Friday intending to kill him, said detectives yesterday quoting a person arrested on the spot as saying.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court allowed Mujahid, 21, to be taken on a four-day remand.

He is a student of a Hazaribagh madrasa and a member of banned Islamist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch Deputy Commissioner (East) Mahbub Alam told The Daily Star.

The faction's general secretary, Delwar Hossain, filed a case with Paltan Police Station on Friday night accusing Mujahid and five to six unnamed persons.
