BCL leader assaults DU journalist
A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader yesterday hurled abuses and assaulted a journalist at Modhur Canteen in Dhaka University (DU) yesterday.
Both are students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, the victim in his final year and the attacker having completed sitting for his master's exam.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Tapon Kanti Roy, DU correspondent of bdnews24.com, told The Daily Star that he was taking tea around 3:00pm when BCL central committee Assistant Secretary Peal Hasan arrived and accused him of being disrespectful.
"When I wanted to know the reason, he became angry and slapped and punched me," he said, claiming that students nearby stopped Peal and he had to get admitted to the DU medical centre.
Peal admitted to having beaten Tapon, claiming it was after the latter hurled abuses at him. "It is a personal issue," he added.
Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique said Tapon had verbally complained to him.
