A Bangladesh Chhatra League leader of the dissolved committee of Government BM College, Barisal unit was hacked allegedly by one of his rivals near the campus in the city on Tuesday night.

With neck and back injuries, Foysal Ahmed Munna, sports secretary of the committee and a supporter of joint convener Nahid Serniabad, was admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

At the hospital, he told reporters that Sunil Baroi, an activist and a follower of joint convener Moin Tusher, attacked him with a cleaver.

Tusher said there had been a dispute over money between Munna and Sunil for a long time.

Some students, seeking anonymity, said Sunil hacked Munna as the latter did not repay Tk 1.5 lakh owed to him.

Protesting the attack, Munna's followers locked the principal's office from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm yesterday and brought out a procession on the campus, demanding punishment for the attacker.

Shakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said they arrested Sunil and he was being interrogated.
