BRTC to get 900 more vehicles

Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation has started procuring 900 vehicles, including 300 double-deckers and 100 articulated buses, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told parliament yesterday.

Replying to lawmakers' queries, the minister also said 158 buses of BRTC are irreparable.  

Obaidul Quader informed the parliament that 205 BRTC buses were either torched or damaged during the BNP-led alliance's movement in 2013 and 2014.

The minister said the BRTC currently has 1,532 buses and 138 trucks.

Meanwhile, Railways Minister Mujibul Haque told parliament that the government is now implementing 48 projects with Tk 33,647.22 crore to build the railway into a safe, cost-effective, environment-friendly and passenger service-oriented public transport medium.
