BYLC to train 10,000 youths in four years
Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center will provide training to some 10,000 youths in a span of four years to develop their career-oriented competitiveness to succeed in the job market.
During this time, it is expecting to arrange jobs for 4,000 of the trained youths from different universities and also to fund 30 young entrepreneurs.
BYLC held a press conference yesterday at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel to brief the media in this regard.
The goal will be achieved under a project titled “Creating a sustainable and prosperous future for Bangladeshi youth”, in collaboration with IKEA Foundation and the Netherlands Embassy, said the organisers.
Addressing the press conference, BYLC President and Founder Ejaj Ahmad said as part of the project, they are going to launch a fund for youths to help them start their careers.
“We will provide 10,000 young men and women with skills training required to meet the challenges of the 21st century,” he said.
For the 30 entrepreneurship projects, the organisation will initially provide Tk 8 lakh to each. If the initiatives take off, they can get up to Tk 20 lakh, Ejaj said while responding to a query.
As part of the project, BYLC will call for applications in December this year, he added.
Former managing director of Microsoft Bangladesh and Founder, Chairman and CEO of SBK Tech Ventures Sonia Bashir Kabir said, “Right now, Bangladesh has the demographic dividend and density dividend, while most countrymen speak one language.”
“So with all of that, what we can do with the youths is arm them with soft skills and hard skills,” Sonia Bashir said, expressing her excitement to be a part of the initiative.
Referring to Bangladesh’s unemployment scenario, Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands said starting own business in a country with high unemployment is essential to create new jobs.
Dutch Ambassador to Bangladesh Harry Verweij also addressed the press conference.
Those who are interested in the initiative can visit BYLC’s official website www.bylc.org for details.
