Chittagong Metropolitan Police yesterday awarded traffic constable Md Monir Hossain, who courageously rescued a boy from a 25-feet-deep canal in the city's Nimtala on Sunday.

CMP Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandol handed over Tk 20,000 to him in the conference room of CMP.

"I rescued the boy considering him to be my son," said Monir.

On Sunday morning, on his way to school second-grader Sajjad Hossain slipped on a banana peel and slid into the canal. Then Monir, who was on his way to work at Truck Terminal in Nimtala, moved forward to save him by jumping into the water when people around were just watching as the schoolboy started to disappear into the canal.
