Cop gets mob beating for ‘sexually harassing’ woman in Rajshahi

A police constable has been beaten up by local people for allegedly sexually harassing a woman at Laxmipur in Rajshahi city.

The constable was later closed to the Police Lines over the allegation against him, reports our Rajshahi correspondent quoting police. 

The incident took place last night when Sabbir Hossain, a constable of Paba Police Station, sexually harassed the woman, a former acquaintance of his, in the area at around 10:00pm, said Golam Ruhul Kuddus, a spokesperson of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).

Hearing screams of the woman, locals caught Sabbir red handed and beat him up, leaving him injured. The constable was in civil dress at the time of the incident, the RMP official said.

Sabbir, a drug addict and a former resident of Laxmipur, went to the area from Paba in order to take drugs, the spokesperson said.

On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the police constable. They took him to a local hospital and gave him primary treatment.

Following the incident, Sabbir Hossain has been closed to the Police Lines, the RMP official added.
