Dhaka University's Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall authorities yesterday cancelled the residency permit of a fine arts master's student, also the general secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League unit at the faculty, for allegedly misbehaving with the provost and house tutors.

Obaidul Kabir Rikto was given 24 hours to leave with his belongings, Provost Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan told The Daily Star, adding that the incident occurred around 11:00pm on Tuesday when the hall authorities were conducting a drive against illegal residents. "When we asked for his papers, Rikto expressed his anger and misbehaved with us claiming to be a BCL leader," he said. Rikto claimed it was "a misunderstanding" and that he had become "excited".

"If Rikto is guilty, the administration can take any kind of action against him," said DU unit BCL General Secretary Motahar Hossen.
