Earth filling of Khowai River still on despite DC's halt order

Claims Bapa; forms human chain in protest

The Khowai River in Habiganj has to be saved from earth filling for construction of a road, demanded residents at a human chain in the town yesterday.

Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (Bapa), Habiganj unit, and Khowai River Water Keeper organised the programme joined by students, professionals and different NGO representatives.

Despite a prohibition from the deputy commissioner's office on May 28, such malpractice is going on, they said, adding that the river in Sayestaganj had already narrowed down.

Tofazzal Sohel, secretary of the district unit of Bapa, among others, spoke.

Kumar Bonik, deputy director of LGRD in Habiganj, said they called a meeting with the officials concerned and green activists for today in the DC office in this regard.
